Esenboga International Airport
Ankara Airport is rather known as Esenboga International Airport in Turkey and serves as the primary airport in the area. It was named after the village Esenboga meaning ‘healthy bull’. It is situated about 28 kilometers northeast of Ankara. It has been operating and serving travelers of Ankara for about 53 years now.
Esenboga Airport has a new terminal which combines the domestic and international terminal. It has a land area of 168,000 square meters that can accommodate up to 10 million passengers yearly. It has 105 check-in counters and 34 passport counters. It also has a parking space that can hold up to 4,000 vehicles. In addition, the Esenboga Airport also serves as an emergency landing site for the Space Shuttle of NASA.
Transportation and Facilities
Transportation going to and from the city is by taxi and Havas bus line. One-way fare by taxi is around $35 while by bus is $9. These transportations are available outside the terminal area. Inside the terminal, there are several shopping areas like Duty Free stores. There are 2 shops that sell cosmetics, cigarettes, chocolates and liquors among others.
Within the terminal are cafes, restaurant, pubs and beer ports where passengers can relax while waiting for their flights. Snacks like sandwiches and beverages, are likewise available in kiosk scattered within the terminal. Several lounges are also prepared for business class passengers of various airlines. Banks and cash exchange are visible too. There is even medical assistance offered within the terminal to assist sick passengers.
