Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, the main airport serving Netherlands, is around 17.5 KM from Amsterdam, towards the southwest. It boasts of five main runways, with one dedicated to general aircraft. Thirty-five percent of its passengers were aboard international flights.

The Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is home to the Royal Dutch Airlines, the Transavia, and Martinair. Northwest Airlines also bases its operations in Schiphol.

Transportation and Facilities
To get to the Schiphol, the Nederlandse Spoorwegen, the national train operator of Netherlands, houses a major passenger train station directly underneath the airport’s passenger terminal complex.

Schiphol is home to large shopping areas like the Schiphol Plaza. There is also the Food Village, open till midnight, throughout the week. The Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is also home to the Rijkmuseum, a small place where art aficionados can view classical as well as contemporary art. Interestingly, the Schiphol offers services wherein people can get married then and there, then go on honeymoon directly. Yet still another interesting fact is that there is an in-house mortuary in the Schiphol, where the deceased can be taken care of, or housed, before departure or after arrival.

Amsterdam, the capital of Netherlands, and also its largest city, is known for its rather lax laws. Its red-light districts and liberal drug laws have become legend.

It is also home to the World Fashion Center.

Other bastions of culture include the Stedelijk Museum, and the Anne Frank House. It is home to most of the major religions in the world, from Judaism, Sunni Islam, Roman Catholicism, and even Calvinism, among others.

Amsterdam is truly a cosmopolitan city, and its melting pot culture attests to this.
