Akureyri Airport
AkureyriAkureyri Airport first started using a gravel runway which was paved only in 1967, after 12 years of servicing travelers. Flights from Reykjavik going to Akureyri initiated in 1937. Later on different flights going to the northwestern, eastern and northern areas were also offered. The flights are usually more on domestic but there are also some international flights operated by Iceland Express. Flights usually go to Reykjavik but there are also those that are headed for Porshofn, Grimsey and Vopnafjorour.

These days, there are already around 45 flights from small aircrafts every week. The shortest flight from Akureyri is only about 63 miles and the DHT with 19 seats is the smallest commercial aircraft coming out from this airport.

Transportation and Facilities
Facilities within the airport include information desk where you can get information regarding the time of flights. Aside from these, there are also several restaurants that offer meals to waiting travelers. There are also several transportation vehicles from the airport going to the city proper. There are taxis, rented cars and buses coming to and from the airport, bringing in passengers. You can inquire from the information desks regarding reliable transportation rentals or you can avail of these vehicles that randomly park outside the terminal. Taxis are found available in front of the building. The fare is around ISK 800, going to the city proper which is about 3 kilometres from the airport.
